19/2014: Little pouch with Little Folks

At the moment, I am working towards finishing a quilt that I started a long time ago - my Little Folks string quilt. I can't even remember when I started that one, so I guess it's high time to get a move on. I am paper piecing the string blocks, and cutting them in shape produces a lot of tiny scraps. But to get rid off some Little Folks fabric? Never!

So I took all the scraps and did some improv piecing. I really like the look of the voile paired with linen. And since pouches are quick and easy to make, and therefore instant sewing gratification. it was a no brainer what to make...

I added some decorative stitches with orange embroidery floss. This one might even stay here with me.

Have a happy weekend, everyone! I'm linking this small finish up with Sew Fresh Quilts for TGIFF.

18/2014: Welcome back!

Well hello there, it's been a while...
Sorry for the total lack of posts in the last month. It was due to a mix of no internet for almost three weeks and the general busyness of settling in after a big move. But we are up and running now. The kids are happily settled at their new school (I can't believe I have a first grader now!), and I realized that my French is not so bad after all. Still a long way towards fluency though, but I'll get there (in a few years or so, haha). And I finally got a smartphone and discovered instagram! Totally addictive. You can find me under http://instagram.com/sunset.sewing#

Since our new place is smaller than the old house, I had to scale down my sewing area a bit. It's now a combined sewing/guest room. I'll give you a tour in the next post, since I have a finish to show today! The other night I had this idea pop into my head. You always see a lot of color with a low volume background all around, so I thought: "Why not switch this around?" And that I did.

Halfway through the ironing, I realized I don't have enough orange Kona. But luckily I have friends with quilt shops! A quick order to Andrea took care of that. But alas, patience was never my strong suit.  And when I came across some orange cotton fabric at Manor (a department store, kind of like Macy's), I just could not resist. But when I look at it from another angle, then I have finished a pillow and added to my stash at the same time. How cool is that?

I really like how it turned out. What can I say, I'm totally into quilted rainbows.

And it fits right in with the other quiltiness on my sofa, wouldn't you say?

I'm linking up with Quilt Matters for TGIFF and crazy mom quilts!
