WIP Wednesday: Monika made me do it!

Wow, it's been ages since I took part in Lee's WIP Wednesday link-up! But it's good to be back, because that means I'm actually sewing something quilting related...

I've been busy with bee blocks these past weeks. I had a little catching up to do for my San Diego Modern Quilt Guild bee, and then in January the Bee Germany started.

So I made some string blocks for Shanley...

...some Herringbone blocks for Sandi...

...and a variation of the Octagonal Orbs block for Monika.

Well, and now my latest project is sort of Monika's fault (not really her fault, I just felt heavily inspired!).  Her block was fun to make, and it's great for scraps, so this is what happened next:

And before I knew it, I was here:

The plan for this? A rainbow quilt with a total of nine blocks. So six more to go...

PS: Don't forget that you have still time to enter my giveaway to win a fat quarter stack of these lovelies:

Washi in knit

Sometimes, one can overcome one's fear pretty easily. Just face it head on and in time, you'll overcome it. Okay, I admit that my fear of sewing with knits is not life-altering or life-hindering. But my first few tries with knit fabrics were sobering, to say the least. But ever since I started sewing little jersey shirts for my boys, it somehow did not seem so intimidating. So after finishing a few successful projects with jersey, I was brave enough to tackle something for myself. And, tadah, it worked!

It's a Washi dress in some very colorful, very patterned jersey from my stash. I bought it about two years ago, never knowing if I would ever use it (I still had the fear then!). But the drape of it is great, and I really, really wanted to try the Washi pattern with a knit fabric. So if figured I just dive right in. Luckily, it worked out.

Have a good start into the new week! And don't forget that you still have until Friday to enter my giveaway!

I'm also linking up with Plum and June for the Monday link up!

My blog had it's birthday last Wednesday and I totally forgot about it. (hangs her head in shame...)
Two years of blogging, I guess that means I'm in the toddler phase now, haha!

Anyway, I'm all for short and to the point this week, so here it comes: In celebration of my second blogging anniversary, I'm having a little giveaway. I was thinking long and hard about what to give away, and then I decided on some Dutch Love fabric.

Just leave a comment to enter a nice little stack of fat quarters of hearts and blooms. Simple as that. You'll get a second entry if you follow my blog and tell me in a comment as well (I've always hated that, but changed my mind in lightning speed since I won a fabulous giveaway that way...)
I'll leave this open for a week, so you have until February 1st to enter! The giveaway is now closed!

Have a nice weekend!

Long overdue

Hi there! I guess it's a little too late to wish you a happy new year now...

I did not really plan to be absent from this space for so long, it just sort of happened. We had a nice Christmas and a fun vacation over New Year's, and then sickness happened. This week is the first week my kids have been back in pre-school. Before that, they were either puking, coughing or feverish or all of that together. My husband also had the flu, I just had a cold (well, what can I say, a mother has to stay halfway healthy, no?). So I haven't really had the energy to blog as well. And I had so many plans! I wanted to write a full "this was my year 2012 in quilts" post. I wanted to write a post about my sewing goals 2013. I wanted to write a little bit about our vacation...

Okay, so here's an abbreviated version of it all:

2012 in quilts looked like this:

Our vacation looked like this:

We went to Oberstaufen, which is a small town in Southern Germany in the Alps. The kids just had a blast. We don't ski, but I bought two of those snow gliders.

Even my two year old went down the hill really fast. And loved it!

Mr. "almost 5 years old " had to go all the way up the hill...

And even I could be persuaded to a little sledding with my husband!

My two boys, watching the fireworks on New Year's Eve. My heart just melted...

I'm happy that we are back to normal this week. I did some sewing, mostly catching up on bee blocks. I had my second blogging anniversary yesterday, but I totally forgot. So you'll get a post about that tomorrow (with a giveaway!) Stay tuned! And now I'm doing it anyway: Happy (and healthy) New Year 2013!!!
